Proposed Construciton of Civil Engineering Labouratories Including Planning,
Designing & Estimation in Vaagdevi College of Engineering

ABSTRACT
The Project work aims to construct Civil Engineering Laboratories in Vaagdevi College of Engineering
campus Bollikunta Warangal. Accordingly it is further proposed to plan, design, estimate 6 laboratories
for the use of Civil Engineering Department. In view of above, site surveys are conducted and site for
construction is located. It is proposed to construct each laboratory of size 10M X 16M duly providing 12
columns with steel trusses and Asbestos sheets.
To decide the type of foundations, soil investigations are being conducted in Vaagdevi laboratories duly
collecting
the soil samples from excavated trial pits.
The Permeability, core cutter and stability analysis were conducted in the laboratories.the soil
investigations are under progress and immediately after getting the results the structural design will
be arrived.
The work is under fast progress and the design, planning, estimation of the Civil Engineering
Laboratories proposed in Vaagdevi College Campus will be submitted as project work as per the
schedule.
It is proposed to construct the Civil Engineering laboratories at existing Survey Laboratory opposite to
BEd college in Vaagdevi College Premises.
1 Accordingly site surveys were taken up and an area of 1082.4 Sq.m is located to
construct 6 laboratories.
2. Each block is provided to a size of 10 m x 16 m.
3. A gap of 2m is provided between the blocks.
Thus 6 numbers of laboratories i,e Survey, Concrete, Transportation, Geotechnical, Hydraulics, and
Geology are proposed to accommodate the laboratory equipment and also the students.
Accordingly, planning and designing is carried out in this project work by Batch number 5 of Final year
Civil Engineering students an annexed to this project work.
Further the Cost Estimation of the Laboratories are supported with detail and Abstract Estimation.

INTRODUCTION
CHAPTER: 1
Location of The site
Vaagdevi college of Engineering is located in Bollikunta village limits of Warangal District of
Telangana State, in Southern India. The city is situated in between 18°0’0” N ́ Latitude North and
78068’53”Longitude East. The Warangal District is 140 Km away from the Hyderabad city. The District
is surrounded by Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Khammam Districts and North part is bounded by
Chattisgadh and Orissa States.
As Civil Engineering Branch is mostly involved with field work and execution of Civil Engineering
Structures, it is proposed to construct 6 six laboratories in Vagdevi College Campus.
It is proposed to construct Civil Engineering Laboratories in Vaagdevi College Of Engineering
Campus near open parking place opposite to ‘B’ Block.
CHAPTER : 2
OBJECTIVES
This project is carried out to cater the needs of Vagdevi College OF Engineering. This project will be
helpful to fulfill the need of water supply to our college. The increased need for water may result in
lowering the groundwater table and depleted reservoirs.
The Project work aims to construct Civil Engineering Laboratories in Vaagdevi College of
Engineering campus Bollikunta Warangal. Accordingly it is further proposed to plan, design,
estimate 6 laboratories for the use of Civil Engineering Department.
In view of above, site surveys are conducted and site for construction is located. It is proposed to
construct each laboratory of size 10M X 16M duly providing 12 columns with steel trusses with
asbestos sheets roofing.

The Project Work of Proposed Construction of Civil Engineering Laboratories including planning,
designing and Estimation in Vagdevi College Campus –Bollikunta-Warangal is presented in this book
let.
The Main Objectives of the project are:
(i) Increase in strength of Students.
(ii) Fixing the size of Laboratory according to the strength
(iii) Design of Roof Trusses.
(iv) Structural Design including planning and Estimation

INVESTIGATION
It is proposed to conduct preliminary surveys for locating the site in campus. Surveying, Investigation,
sub-soil exploration, Drawing, designing and Planning of Structure. This should match to relevant IS
Codes, R&B manuals, Departmental Codes, Circulars issued by the Government from time to time.

Preparation of Cost Estimate including providing a Detail Project Report with relevant IS codes, IRC
publications, R&B codes following Municipal Rules.
The VCE is an Educational Institution established since more than 2 decades. As the Department of
Civil Engineering is to be established with latest and modern laboratories with full infrastructure and
efficient and experienced qualified Teaching Staff, the department of Civil Engineering has planned to
propose construction of new laboratories and submit to the management.
In view of this, the work of Planning and designing is allotted as project work to Batch 5 of final year
students.
As part of project work Investigations, Surveying and Soil Test has been conducted .
Levelling- Levelling is a branch of surveying the object of which is:
(1) To find the elevations of given points with respect to given or assumed datum, and
(2) To establish points at a given elevation or at different elevations with respect to a given or an
assumed datum. The first operation is required to enable the works to be designed while the second
operation is required in the setting out of all kinds of engineering works. Leveling deals with
measurements in a vertical plane.
In view of above, site surveys are conducted and site for construction is located. It is proposed to
construct each laboratory of size 10M X 16M duly providing 12 columns with steel trusses with
asbestos sheets roofing.
The site is located in front of BEd College and adjacent to existing Survey lab.
Further after site surveys a detailed soil investigation has been conducted for designing of footings and
structural design..

SOIL TESTING
A trial Pit of size 1m x 1mx 1m has been excavated and the soil samples are collected and the following
